The Asian Poker Tour Super High Roller Championship is yet another record-breaking event held at the 2025 APTC Taipei Festival here at Red Space, Taipei. One of the pinnacle events of the festival smashed the player entry record for a USD 25,000 buy-in APT event, drawing 81 players (56 unique), breaking the previous record of 49 set here in Taipei in 2024.

In addition to being the largest tournament in APT history, of this buy-in level with a TWD 59,519,521 (~USD 1,907,680) prize pool, the Super High Roller Championship is also the richest non-Main Event tournament the tour has ever run in the new era, with the TWD 13,398,721 (~USD 429,450) top prize the largest the APT has ever awarded outside of a Main Event.

The feeling of deja vu was in the air as Roman Hrabec once again finished on top, bagging 6,865,000 to lead the final six. This came despite doubling up Danny Tang on the last hand of the night. Thailand’s Alex Wice secured the second spot with 5,330,000, while Axel Hallay rounded out the podium positions with 2,690,000, the same place he held after Day 1 of this three-day event.

Day 2 Action

A total of 21 players took their seats at the start of the day, but with late registration open until the end of the first level of the day this number increased throughout the level, and 42 were left once late registration officially closed at the start of Level 12, it was shown that just 15 players would make the money.

As expected, a plethora of household names and APT high roller regulars took to the tables to take their shot at the huge prize pool and get their hands on first Rose Gold APT Lion Championship Trophy on offer at the series. Crushers such as Erik Seidel, Justin Chu, Joseph Cheong, Yu Zhang, Vincent Huang, Michael Addamo, Fabian Gumz and Dominik Nitsche to name just a few, all fell by the wayside before making the money.

The money bubble was a short one-handed affair after about seven hours of play, with American Jason Mo being the unfortunate bubble boy, when he called down Hrabec on every street with top pair, only to see that he had been the whole time to Hrabec's flopped two pair. With the elimiation of Mo, the 15 players left had all locked up at least TWD 1,136,800 (~USD 36,435) for their efforts.

Danny Tang (2).jpg Danny Tang

A few levels after the the money was reached, the tournament would be reduced to its final nine players. It was Canada’s Gabriel Le Jossec that was eliminated in tenth place as the final table bubble boy, when his rivered two pair ran into Tang's rivered flush.

The only female to have be in the event was the Japanese rising star Hikaru Hishinuma, who max late registered the tournament. She immediately boosted her stack after picking off Samuel Mullur’s river bluff with third pair. Her stack kept growing from that point, eventually allowing her to enter the final table as the chip leader. But, in one of the very first hands of the final table, Hishinuma lost half her stack after doubling up Wice when her ace-queen ran into the Thai pro’s Big Slick.

First to get eliminated from the final table in ninth place was Germany’s Hannes Jeschka, despite doubling up early via Hrabec, he was then unable to improve with ace-king against the two nines of Hrabec, and had to settle for a ninth place finish in this prestigious event.

Next to fall in eighth place was Taiwan’s only representative, Poseidon Ho. He three-bet shoved pocket queens over Hallay’s under the gun open and needed to beat ace-queen to begin his spin-up. However, it wasn’t to be, as a disastrous ace on the turn spelled the end of his Super High Roller Championship run.

Biao Ding.jpg Biao Ding

The final elimiantion of the day was that of a familar face on the high roller scene across the globe, Biao Ding, when his ace-queen cruelly got outdrawn by Hrabec's jack-eight that improved to two pair on the turn.

Play concluded at the end of Level 20 with six players remaining who are all now guaranteed a minimum cash payment of TWD 3,197,300 (~ USD 102,480), but all eyes will be on the first-place prize of TWD 13,398,721 (~ USD 429,450), the Rose Gold APT Lion Championship Trophy, and the added USD 10,000 seat into the APTC Main Event

Tang Will Sleep Better After That Call

Danny Tang (1).jpg Danny Tang

On the last hand of Day 2, Danny Tang raised to 120,000 from the hijack and only Roman Hrabec called from the big blind.

Hrabec started with a check on the J K J flop, and Tang fired a continuation-bet of 85,000. Hrabec took the most aggressive option to him and check-raised to 250,000. Tang decided to call.

A 6 on the turn didn't slow Hrabec down as he led out for 250,000. Once again, Tang continued in the form of a call.

After the A completed the board, Hrabec jammed, putting Tang to the test for his remaining 610,000. Tang went into the tank and said to Hrabec, "king-jack again?", I think I'm paying you, I think I'm paying you".

Tang was telling the truth as he put in the call. Hrabec turned over a stone bluff with T 5 , and Tang earned the double-up with A T for just a pair of aces.

Wice Takes Down a Monster Vs Tang

ALex Wice3.jpg Monster Pot For Alex Wice

Danny Tang made it 135,000 to play from under the gun and was looked up by Alex Wice on the button.

The flop came A 7 6 and Tang continued for 125,000. Wice made the call.

The dealer flipped over the J as the turn, and Tang didn't slow down betting out for 520,000. Wice flat-called once again.

The Q peeled off on the river, still no let off from Tang, as he fired out for 1,080,000, this time after the dealer pulled in one time bank.

Wice went deep into the tank with one time bank being pulled in by the dealer before he announced that he was all in. Tang asked for the count, which came back as a total of 2,510,000. Now it was Tang deep in the tank and just before the dealer charged him his second time bank he released his cards to send Wice the huge pot.

"Yes!" was the cry from Wice as he exposed his cards to Axel Hallay and the floor, showing A K .

Roman Hrabec came in for a raise to 125,000 from middle position and Biao Ding committed his last 265,000 from the button. After the rest of the table folded, Hrabec flicked in the call with a smile.

Biao Ding A Q

Roman Hrabec J 8

Both players hit a pair on the J A 9 flop, but it was Ding's pair of aces that were in the lead.

An 8 rolled off on the turn to put Hrabec ahead with two pair, and leave Ding with one foot out the door.

The 3 on the river was no help for Ding and he was the APT Super High Roller Championship seventh-place finisher for TWD 2,516,400 (~USD 80,650).

Tang Gets Some Value Out of Wice

Alex Wice raised from the hijack and only Danny Tang wanted to play out of the small blind.

Tang and Wice checked all the way to the river on the 3 5 7 6 5 runout before Tang bet 215,000. Wice begrudgingly called, and was then forced to muck upon seeing Tang's 9 9 for a pair of nines.

Axel Hallay came in for a raise to 120,000 under the gun before Poseidon Ho jammed for 260,000 out of the big blind. Hallay called to try and bust Ho and make the tournament eight-handed.

Axel Hallay A Q

Ho just needed to dodge an ace on the runout to double-up again.

The 3 9 8 flop was safe for Ho's queens, but the A turn was a disaster for him as Hallay took the lead with a pair of aces.

There was no one-outer for Ho on the 7 river, and he was out in eigth place for TWD 2,026,500 (~USD 66,040).
